In the beginning of the story, Kayla is an ordinary teenage girl. In this story, her mental abilities are drastically changed after the death of both parents.  She realized she had telepathic abilities she did not know about before.  After some practice, she learned how to communicate with others that had it.  She learned how to control it by practicing with a woman she saw in a vision and found in the mountains.  Kayla grew to be a stronger person from losing her parents and learning how to use her psychic abilities.

When I first started reading this book, I liked it.  My opinion changed when I finished it.  The main character in the book, Kayla, turned out to be a clone that had bird genes.  This just seems kind of crazy and it made the book a lot less likeable for me.  I would have preferred a more realistic ending.  I also did not like her psychic powers.  I thought she was a normal human being that was not comfortable with getting the tattoo that the Global-1 people were forcing on everyone.  Then she turns out to be an actual clone created by Global-1.  I wish she would have been a normal person and not the result of an experiment.
